Eva Mainau obtained her degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), where she also studied her MSc degree on specialization in Veterinary Investigation and Food Sciences. After, she obtained her PhD in Veterinary Medicine also from the UAB and worked as an investigator at the Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries (Food and Agriculture Research and Technology Institute, IRTA). At present she works as an investigator at the Animal and Food Science Department at the Veterinary Medicine Faculty at the UAB in matters regarding the behaviour and welfare of livestock. Recently she has joined the Farm Animals Welfare Education Centre (FAWEC).
